Leviathan Wakes is a wonderfully engaging space opera - light on the hard sciences, heavy on characters, growth and conflict. It starts a bit slow, but as it picks up steam, you find an interesting world/universe situation, some very engaging characters, and event after even that keeps you excitable. Not going to write a novel about it, but suffice to say that I found this to be a very entertaining and well written book, and I will be continuing with the series post-haste.

Reading this one right after the Southern Reach trilogy felt like following up a Michelin-starred dinner with a Big Mac meal. There’s nothing wrong with this book per se, it’s a fun space opera with lots of actiony things, a mix of Firefly, Blade Runner, and a Heinlein Juvenile. It might work better in cinematic form, so I’ll probably give the Expanse TV show a try. As for the book series? Probably a miss from me.
