The easiest five stars I've given this year.
This book surprised me. I'd been told I'd love it. I'd been told it's awesome. And I know it's to be a movie, but I did not expect to love it and to be as hooked as I was!

Though the book is quite predictable in that it is a typical heroic journey, there’s a lot here to like. Anyone with even a passing acquaintance with the 80s will be reminded of artifacts from the past on nearly every page. Its context is heavily reliant on gaming culture, but that doesn’t limit the text’s appeal. Overall, this is a fun book to read and it differs considerably from the movie. It’s possible to enjoy both so long as one doesn’t expect them to be carbon ...more
