I was looking for fantasy with grit. This is it.

I honestly didn't know what to make of the book when I began reading. The narrative style is vastly different from anything else I've read. I picked up the omnibus volume containing The Black Company, Shadows Linger and The White Rose. The trilogy tells the story of The Black Company, the last of the Free Companies of Khatovar, as told by its annalist and physician, Croaker.
