I really quite enjoyed this, actually. It had enough of the Yet-Another-Fantasy-Series about it to be comfortable and easily-digested, with heaps of newness to keep things interesting.
After having read The Way of Kings and now this, what really stands out for me is the creativity of the worlds Sanderson builds. The good:
- Magic system: Well thought through and executed, very physics-based/scientific, creative
- Mystery: The skaa have been kept in the dark for so long that they are rediscovering their world as we are discovering it
- Bad guys: The Lord Ruler is a twisted, thinks-he's-helping-the-world kinda bad, and he surrounds himself with mutilated henchmen (who, it's hinted, gain much of their powers from said mutilation)
- Plotline: All the chaos and difficulty of inciting a political rebellion agains ...more

This is an incredible world to imagine and partake in. The dark red sun and the ash and soot covering the streets. The people didn't even know that the sun should be yellow and that plants should be green. The realistic science of Allomancy was fascinating. Pushing and pulling on metals around, and soothing or rioting people's emotions. It intrigued me to find out what would happen in a world with no hope, no morals, that was completely fallen. How could a world like that possibly change and get
