Although I’ve never thought about writing epic, god-infused, politcal/family intrigues, I love reading them when well done. Part drama, part soap opera, part mystery, and part commentary on society, all with a fantasy sheen. What’s not to love?

This was a easy, fast and comfortable read but mostly due to the writing style and not the plot.

This book took me to a different world. It was fascinating and original.
The story of the Barbarian girl fighting to stay alive to maybe make her claim over the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.
My issue is that it is written in the first person which I do not enjoy. Also she is very wordy and descriptive for one talking about her own tale.
I did enjoy it but I have no desire anytime soon to read the sequels.

Initially, I wasn't sure about this book. I found the "history" stuff thrown in jarring within a first person narrative, but I'm glad I kept reading. Every time I picked up the book, it got better. By the conclusion, I was a big fan.
