Well let's see.... I liked it. No, it was not the best written book I have ever read but it is definitely not the worst either. I can get through a badly written book as long as the story draws me in. Which it did in this case. It was Christian's character that I enjoyed reading about. I loved watching him slowly heal from the tortured, unlovable man to one you can sympathize with and possibly even love. The whole BDSM thing was severely overrated IMO. It was not that bad. This was hurry and read book because if you read every word you would put it down and never pick it up again. I really couldn't take the "Oh,my" and "inner goddess" any more. This is perhaps the worst piece of literature I have read in a long, long time. It is beyond sophomoric to the point of being intellectually insulting. The main character, Ana, is silly and superficial. My only hope is that other young women don't read this drivel and think that emulating Ana is a worthwhile endeavor. Miss Steal is going to collage when Mr. Grey first meets her and lives with her best friend. Her friend has to write a review on Mr. Grey but can't get away, so Miss Steal does the interview.

Miss Steal is a virgin and has no clue about what sex is all about but Mr. Grey is willing to teach her. She has nothing to compare it to. He likes things rough as long as there is an agreement between the two partners.

Shelves: didnt-live-up-to-the-hype

I knew this book was going to be bad. I mean, it started life as poorly written Twilight fan fiction for crying out loud. And it ended being published as poorly written creepy porn. Now, a zillion people read this book and I generally say anything that gets people reading is a good thing. Except this. This is not a good thing. At all. In any way shape or form. But, E.L. James is laughing all the way to the bank so good on her.

This was mediocre. The shock value and erotic elements of the book did not phase me. Anastasia's character was bland, and I just couldn't root for her. If you want shocking or BDSM erotica, I would recommend Anne Rice (A. N. Roquelaure in this case)'s Sleeping Beauty Quartet. ...more
