I read The Scarlet Letter for an English class in my freshmen year. It was an outstanding tale. I enjoyed it then and still do everytime I read it. I believe that I have read the book like 600 times. Nathaniel Hawthone knows how to captivate his readers. I loved his unique style, moods and tones of every character, setting, and time period. He totally nailed it. I did not care much for Hawthorne's writing style. I found some parts of the book (especially descriptions) tedious and exaggerated. That being said, I think the book has some significant things to say about the Puritan American society. It has intricately woven symbols, and is definitely worth reading.

Creo que el mayor mérito que tuvo esta novela, es que con las descripciones pude realmente transportarme a la Nueva Inglaterra del siglo XVII. La primera escena enseguida nos pone en situación: llevan a Hester Prynne, la protagonista, a la plaza pública porque ha cometido adulterio y como castigo deberá llevar una letra escarlata en el pecho durante toda su vida. I dislike Hester very, very much. I dislike Dimmesdale even more. This book was required for my school reading and it was a very heavy read. The sentences were long and their was A LOT of description and little dialogue. Overall though, this book was decent. It's themes are meaningful.
