Recently I have been on a dystopian kick ending here.
I really enjoyed this novel. It was much easier to see why the people allowed themselves to be controlled as such as compared to 1984. Throughout the beginning I couldn't help but think, "hey this doesn't sound THAT bad". It was until it was pointed out that reading was considered a solitary activity and was therefore banned that I realized what a terrifying future this would be. As bad as 1984? No! As terrifying as The Handmaid's Tale? NEVER ...more

I assigned this book as summer reading for my AP Literature class so I need to re-read it myself. It's a dystopian-future novel, which are quite popular now. I read it in college and actually thought it was cool that there were government-issued hallucinogens. Now...not so much.
