What Members Thought

The first time I read The Great Gatsby I was in high school and I had no desire to read it. I found the story to be stupid and boring and the characters to be shallow. I will never understand having high schoolers read this novel.
My second reading was significantly better. I still find the characters to be rather shallow. The story line is not incredibly intriguing. But the beauty of this novel is the language and the sense of melancholy that Fitzgerald is able to plunge his reader into.
