Sometimes it's just hype and at other times, the hype is just right. The hype about this one being a classic kept scaring me away, yeah, I am scared of books that take time to enter my head. 2020: I remember liking this in 2013 more than I did on second read, but still quite an amazing book. Fitzgerald’s writing alone deserves 5 stars. What this book had to say wow-ed 16yo me a lot more than it does in 2020. I think it might have something to do with my first-hand experiences of ‘love’ since 2013. What I’m trying to say is I am now dead inside, but that’s not the book’s fault.

I'm reading it for school, not really looking forward to it, but I'll give it a try.

Okay, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually enjoyed this book. Compared to all of the other novels I'm forced to read in class this one I actually got into. The first chapter almost turned me off, but with Fitzgerald's poetic language and intriguing story, I found that it wasn't as bad as I initial thought it was going to be. ...more
