This was a slow read for me but much like Gone with the Wind was totally worth it. Dickens creates a perfect blend of Prodical Son retelling and tragic cinderella story. Every character came to life effortlessly and painted an effective portrait of raw humanity in all its flaws and beauty. Great Expectations goes in my "Annoying Characters" list because of Pip and Estella. Boring. Pip, for crying out loud, MOVE ON. It's not gonna happen.
Great Expectations is also in my "Best Characters Ever" list because of the dynamic Abel Magwitch and Miss Havisham. Gah, Miss Havisham is a piece of work, but Charles Dickens had quite a knack for creating "piece of work" characters, and I think she's one of the most brilliant characters ever created.

Brilliantly written and a page-turner, with several plot twists towards the end. Dickens is wordy but I didn't find the book dense or difficult to read (except when I had to decipher the way some of the characters speak, but that's probably because I'm not a native English speaker). A true classic that I highly recommend!
