Coming back to this book after almost 10 years as a mature person with a very different eye and view of the world really hits differently, I still think it's fucked up and just sad but it's all true and coming to be, or it's happening while I'm writing this right now, the world is actually that bad if not worst, did Orwell see into the future or he just felt that history will repeat itself?

I am glad I read this book, but I disliked it. This book is often held out as a haunting warning against what could happen. The story is fairly compelling. However, just because the theory, argument, basis, etc behind how and why this kind of world could develop and exist is scholarly and thought out doesn't mean that it holds any validity. The lack of character substance made the story quite bland for me, and I only enjoyed reading 'part 3' of the novel - 200 pages in.
