Like many Americans, I read this one in high school & was just too immature to appreciate it at the time.


I bought a beautiful edition of it 2-3 years ago, and it sat on my shelf taunting me, and it wasn't until 'Go Set A Watchman' reviews started pouring in that I decided that it was time to revisit Scout and Atticus and company.

And I am glad that I did! I know now courtesy of the reviews of 'Go Set A Watchman' that we learn that Atticus may not be the amazing man that I currently think he is--

If you are to ever decide to visit Alabama, please remember that this is not how our culture is at the present.

FYI people, this book just makes me furious! I get so upset by the issue of race. I admit that this is beautifully written, but the events that take place in this book upsets me so much that I can't give it a higher rating than what I have. It has taken me a very long time to finish this read. I think coffee is now required.
