I own the 2006 edition of “1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.” Peter Boxall is the general editor and the preface was written by Peter Ackroyd. This book has compiled 1001 recommended books, primarily novels which were selected by over 100 contributors (literary critics, professors of literature, etc.). For each recommended book there is information on the author and a short blurb about the book.

Each time I read this book, I am amazed at how marvelous it is. Harper Lee portrays the residents of a little town in Alabama with such accuracy that I can see each person clearly in my mind. I can see Atticus, a strong, brave, quiet man who always tries to do right, regardless of the consequences. He values all human life, regardless of skin color. Others in the town might agree with him, but are afraid to voice their opinions, some through fear and others through financial concerns. We see the ...more

I am not one to write reviews but i figured this would be a great time to start, with the classic To Kill a Mockingbird. i was first intrigued by the fact that it takes place in a old little town in the deep south! I love the way it is written with a genuine strong southern tongue, unlike other books that take place in the south that has a sort of forced southern twang.
its a great coming of age story of a brother and sister who have been blessed with a loving, understanding, moral hero of a fath

I never knew what make classic book classic. That is, until I read this book. Simply because even though Harper Lee made this book with setting in the 1930s, TKaM's value/morale still apply to today's live that I definitely can learn from.


This book, amazing. It certainly did lived up to its review!
