I am new to this type of genre of books and at first I was extremely intimidated by it, I am not sure why I was. But one Sunday afternoon I was having one of those days where you wear baggy t-shirts, a pair of leggings, fuzzy socks and all you do is lay around watching TV. I flipped to Lifetime and saw that there was a movie titled Jane Austen Book Club, usually I don’t watch those types of films, but I was interested. When the movie was over I decided I was going to read Jane Austen and found I am new to this type of genre of books and at first I was extremely intimidated by it, I am not sure why I was. But one Sunday afternoon I was having one of those days where you wear baggy t-shirts, a pair of leggings, fuzzy socks and all you do is lay around watching TV. I flipped to Lifetime and saw that there was a movie titled Jane Austen Book Club, usually I don’t watch those types of films, but I was interested. When the movie was over I decided I was going to read Jane Austen and found myself getting ready to head over to Borders. As I stood infront of the many shelves where different copies sat I grabbed Pride & Prejudice, the most fimilar work of Jane Austen to me. I have been a huge fan of the 2005 film adaption for some time, so I knew the story line, but I figured why not. When I got home I made a bowl of ice cream and started to dive into 19th century England. As soon as I read the famous first line, I was hooked, okay I wasn’t hooked that fast. It took me a couple of pages to get the flow of the dialouge that happened between the characters. At times I found myself giggling out loud, startling my cat, when I caught onto Jane’s humor that is placed throughout the novel.

I was quick to find out that P&P is not only about love, but the art of conversation. Mr. Darcy right off the bat is labeled proud, rude and disagreeable all because he lacks in the art of a little chit-chat with strangers. Bingley is decided almost right away as agreeable along with Wickham, by Elizabeth.

Throughout Pride & Prejudice you can feel Elizabeth’s fustration, free spiritness, her love and devotion and every other emotion she feels up till the point where she deicedes she is, after all, in love with Mr. Darcy. You can’t really feel her anxiety that is too late to tell Mr. Dary her feelings or that things wont go the way she wants them to go. I wonder if Jane did that, because she wanted Elizabeth to still keep her strenght that she has throughout P&P , but show that she does feel vulnerable at times.

Who knew that after a lot of attempts to read this book that I would finally finish it and for it to become one of my favorite reads!

It took a while for me to get hooked but after I had the characters organized in my head, I could not put it down. The pages kept on flying until I could get to the next Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy encounter. These protagonists were my favorites next to Mr. Bennett, to whom with his sarcastic humor I can't help but love besides his indolent nature. Nevertheless, I enj ...more

I finally read this! This book has been on my mental to read list since I was a teenager. I have heard so much about it and the main characters, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett. The romance, Mr. Darcy, and blah, blah, blah. Now, don't get me wrong because I really enjoyed the book. I just think that a lot of people probably talk about it when they have not really read it.
