as irwing stone did with lust for life, WSM gets into the very skin of his protagonist - the artist, charles strickland. raw, passionate, sensitive and uncouth (i thought it revealed a side to the human nature that exists within us all) at the same time, the agony of the artist is expressed with such thought provoking, rich prose.
