What Members Thought
I hadn't known that Charles Dickens' father had been imprisoned in the Marshalsea, at one time, when Dickens was a child. While reading this book is when I found out. This made the book much more realistic and interesting for me. Dickens was writing what he knew. This is what distinguishes between just a good book and a classic (which I can say this is a classic).

Philistine that I am, I developed an interest in reading this book because of watching the movie on Masterpiece Theater with Matthew MacFadyen.
I just finished the mini series and I loooove this book now, I'll leave the review below for naive first impressions but I don't know her
Things I liked:
- The amazing descriptions of the circumlocution office which almost feel like an antagonistic stand-alone character
- The incredible chapter "The progress of an epidemic" describing how word of mouth spreads about Mr Merdle's riches, chilling in relation to modern day worshipping of rich people. Also the chapter of the death of Mr Merdle and th ...more
