What Members Thought
To me Something Wicked This Way Comes seems overwritten. At first I liked it, but after few chapters it started to annoy me. Nevertheless I could deal with that because there was some very beautiful sentences*, for example
Rain fell softly on town cupolas, chuckled from rainspouts, and spoke in strange subterranean tongues beneath the windows where Jim and Will knew fitful dreams, slipping out of one, trying another for size, but finding all cut from the same dark, mouldered cloth.

There are a lot of things to love about this book: how Bradbury sets a scene, soaking it in lush, flowery prose, each simile and metaphor a bullet etched with a crescent smile directed to your eyes that wait in anticipation (oh, how hard I smiled!); how he creates atmosphere, allowing the reader total immersion; how he describes night, growing old, growing young; how he describes melancholy--but above all, I hold this book dear because Brabdury can describe a library like no other:

Bradbury, you disappointed me with this one. I just could not get into it. There was something off, the style or the story or something. I think it was the writing style that turned me off, that wouldn't allow me to get into the story. I have loved all your other novels but this one is the first I had to give up on. Sorry, there are too many books and not enough time.

Acho que a transição de conto para script de filme para livro prejudicou o ritmo. E também as ideias sobre aberrações são muito superadas.
