What Members Thought

This definitely reads like a first novel in the beginning, but picks up momentum as Dickens becomes more comfortable with his plot and characters. By the book's end he seems to have found his distinctive voice and moved beyond his episodic humorous sketches and begins to explore themes he would develop more fully in later novels. Pickwick rewards patient reading.
