The book is an observation of human nature in post-Napoleonic time of England. The tale of class and social climbing therewith. Becky is a predecessor of Alice Keppel (a Grandmother of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall) in an art of being a Mistress but perhaps with much more flaw and less of discretion.

The language is bit dry although the meta observation is on point. I sincerely wish the book does not bloated to include characters who only live for 1 chapter.
