Probably many know the outline of this book. McMurphy is trying to avoid being on a work farm for criminals and decides to pretend he is insane. He is sent to a psychiatric hospital and placed in a ward run by a female ex-Army nurse. Nurse Ratched, like her name implies, is a combination of both a rat and a hatchet. McMurphy decides to fight the implacable nurse and in the process helps those around him to stand up for themselves. But will the price McMurphy pays be too steep?
