What Members Thought

Sylvia Plath's candid and open voice mixed with her lyrical writing style makes for a very compelling read. Depression is a difficult subject to write about, but Plath does it exceptionally well. The Bell Jar was realistic and so honest. I admire her for putting such personal feelings out into the world. It is courageous because many of the events in the Bell Jar are based off her own life.

I really really liked this book. I think I have a current obsession with mental health books but this one was good. I don't really see how people compare it with Catcher in the Rye. I hated that book I felt like the main character in that book was way more self indulgent than in Bell Jar. You could feel her losing her mind.
