I probably wouldn't have picked it up by myself, but after a little convincing I read this book and I'm glad I did. It is beautifully written and all the characters are fascinating. Being from a country that was under German siege itself, I've obviously learned all about the history of WWII, but this was so brilliantly written, I still felt like I was learning new things.

One of the reviewers mentioned haunting- I agree- this book will stay with me for awhile- the stunning images and the beautiful prose create a world where the reader is swept away and carried between the darkness and the light- hopeful for good to overcome evil and love to prevail in a horrifically dark world of world war 2.
I would have given 5 stars as I loved the book but I did find that the authors attempts to wind things up at the end was weak and did not have the same pull for me as the res ...more
