Second read (November 2024)
I am glad I reread this. Have always wanted to continue with the sequels but almost six years made me forgot the story except that I liked Hilo and Anden a lot. The current rating should be 4.5 stars. Not sure if I would round it up or not, depends on the next books as comparison.
Enjoyed the book alot. Cool fight scenes, great worldbuilding and very distinct characters.

If you combined the movies, The Godfather, Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, and Wall Street you would get this interesting novel centered on the battle between two family clans trying to protect their territory in a fictional asian island. I am normally not a huge fan of fantasy novels and if your preference is for the typical magical world building and Marvel hero based plot line, then this book is not for you. Fun take on an anime Yakuza type story. Very compelling, though I'm not sure if I'm interested enough to keep going, but the story was very fun as is.
However, I am once again annoyed at how long it takes to go through an audio book, I can't listen at double speed- I don't process the story that way- but regular time is SO much slower then I would actually read the book.
