Fascinating and engrossing. Well-built world, well-written plot, fully fleshed-out characters. Jemisin weaves mysteries through the text and helps the reader solve them. An intriguing read. I'll be interested to read the sequel!

Maybe closer to 3.5 stars, but rounding up for being the first interestingly unique book I've read in a while. It took me a bit to get into the flow of the story, but once I hit my groove it smoothed out. There were a couple events in the story that made me cringe a bit, but they were more personal quibbles than flaws in the book. Just love everything about it. Great story, great writing, stunning imagination and ambition.
The three interweaving stories and how they all come together... how it looks at racism and societal subjugation... how it takes a unique look at what we are doing to our environment and comes up with a new twist on the post apocalyptic genre.
I would read anything written by Jemisin.
