This is gonna be hard to review. First of all, I read a TON, but rarely and I mean rarely, do I get touched by a story or characters. This story in spots hit me like a train and I loved the fact that as rich and totally weird as the world was, there were hints of more. That might have been my wreck of a brain trying to fill in holes, but as a total world building slut of a reader, that hit all my good spots.

IS this book perfect? In this humble reader's opinion, yes. Did I give it a perfect score

4.5 ⭐️. Even though many had said, "This book wasn't what I was expecting" and I had prepared myself for the un-expectable - it still wasn't what I was expecting. But I really liked it. I liked that I had no idea what in the world would happen next. I loved the idea of magic/nature vs (or commingled with?) technology. I loved all the bits being woven together from the beginning to the end - it really was magical. Plus, birds. Birds and trees.

If I was going to get stuck in an auto repair shop on Tuesday, then I'm glad I had this copy of All the Birds in the Sky. It soothed a painful wait with its charming world and its premise: two childhood friends grow apart as they follow their dreams, one wanting to become a witch, the other to become a super-scientist. They were each other's only friend, and though their lives will weave back together, they're haunted by a prophecy. Some day, there will be a cataclysmic war between magic and sci ...more

A worthwhile read. I love how the narrative starts out very immature, almost problematically so, and grows with the main characters. Latter half really kicks in a mix of character driven and plot. Weak ending, but doesn't kill the whole book. ...more

3.5 stars. This book had a lot of elements I did like, but the pacing was off which made me start and stop it multiple times. The characters didn't grab me once they were grown up, they were more fully fleshed as teenagers. Slight spoiler, but I didn't really believe the romance, it felt a bit tacked on. I would've liked more scenes with the birds/animals too. It was good, not great. ...more
