When the blood fever struck the world, those who survived were changed. They became malfettos, abominations, some of them cursed with deadly powers. Adelina Amouteru is scarred and hated by society. She endures disgust and punishment from her own father; her only solace is her sister. Yet, one day, her father attempts to sell her off, and pushes Adelina to the edge she has avoided so carefully.

I went back and forth on this book. At times I liked Adelina, but most of the time not so much. Overall, I enjoyed it. At first I didn't at all like the way it ended, but then after the Epilogue I am intrigued again. I am very curious to see what happens next. The Young Elites reminds me a bit of the Shatter Me series. That is set in a dystopian society, and this is more of a fantasy. There are lots of similarities in characters/abilities, how society views them. Come to think of it, the Darkest

Not good. I'm being pretty generous at 2.5 stars. The characters weren't well-developed, and we're supposed to root for a group of cold-blooded killers. Murder may be a means to an end in your eyes, but it doesn't make me like you! And what's with the random LGBT reference thrown in at the end? I guess it was supposed to make us want to read the sequel? It just feels random and tacked on.
I'll be leaving this series to the ones who enthusiastically gave the book 5 stars. It's not for me. ...more

Wow, was not expecting all that happened. I should have since the theme was intertwined an all the intricacies of the details. The author herself used the characters to warn us.
The darkness of this book was well described that I think I was sad, angry and depressed while I was reading.
Is it weird that I liked what she did to her adversary near the end of the book. That is real power not what she had been doing.

I really wanted to like this book. Especially because it has a really intriguing fantasy plot. The writing and technique is awesome as well. But I didn't enjoy it because of some of the morality issues with the Young Elites' characters. The story has a dark sensual feel to it and it didn't appeal to me. (Note to self: If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report, seek after these things.)

Holy crap, did I dislike this book. The only thing that saved it from being a one-star is that Teren is an interesting character. If only the book could've been only about him. Completely contrived "love" story, boring main character, etc. Shatter Me did this whole "secret powers" thing a LOT better.

Interesting. Some characters have special powers and are outcasts from 'normal' people.
