It took me a while to get through this beast, but I quite enjoyed it. The world was familiar enough to feel grounded in real world history, but I didn't actually recognize any thinly veiled historical events or peoples. The fantastical elements were creative and not so mythological that they lost specificity, despite having some definite mythological flavor. The unconventional narration added a nice level of challenge.
