I loved this book! It started a little slow, but once it got going, I was in. Loved and related to Emily. I, too, am awkward in social situations. And Wendell is such a fun and weird character. Can't wait for the second one. ...more

Really good story about an academic in the olden days who studies faeries. Good characters and an interesting imagining of faeries and the different types

This was mostly fun to read; I enjoyed Emily’s voice and her unreliability when she writes about other people, and her dog was awesome. I am surprised by how much I liked this book! Based on some of the reviews I was worried it would be stilted, forced, or overly whimsical, but I found it to be a very lovely story, well-told, about believable characters. I enjoyed it very much and I can't wait to read the sequel! ...more

Charming fantasy with plenty of faeries.

Lovely academic sojourn into the world of the fae from the perspective of an introspective and analytical female scholar studying the far northern Folk. The book takes the form of an academic’s journal of her discoveries and wends a tale of self-sufficiency to community.

The physical hardcover book is precious with a touch of the antique to its cover. The paper choice is more luxurious than light and the font is a stylish choice.

Nice job.
