A battle-weary orc opens a coffee shop. That’s it, that’s the plot. Somehow this quiet book about practically nothing ended up one of my favorite reads this year. I wouldn’t blanket recommend this book, because it really is low plot/high vibes. But if you’re a fan of Becky Chambers or TJ Klune—or if you’re just, like, excessively into coffee shop operations and management—you’d probably enjoy this lovely slice-of-life fantasy.

It is hard not to re-iterate what others have already said about this book, but when it comes down to it, this is exactly what everyone has been talking about. It is an incredibly cozy and quaint story about a retired adventurer and the people and trials she comes into contact with while trying to start a new life.

Top notch comfort read- an unusually cosy fantasy about a former mercenary orc's retirement plan to set up a coffeeshop. A story of friendship, second chances and finding beauty and fulfilment in a conventionally quotidian life.
