A battle-weary orc opens a coffee shop. That’s it, that’s the plot. Somehow this quiet book about practically nothing ended up one of my favorite reads this year. I wouldn’t blanket recommend this book, because it really is low plot/high vibes. But if you’re a fan of Becky Chambers or TJ Klune—or if you’re just, like, excessively into coffee shop operations and management—you’d probably enjoy this lovely slice-of-life fantasy.

Cozy fantasy, no massive world building, magic easily understood, no new language to learn, yes please!

I finally finished a book! It has been a struggle the last year and a half to read anything...but I am proud to say on the last day of 2022...that I was able to finish a book...that I started in June!!
I really, really enjoyed this book. It was such a light and wholesome read. And I loved the message about how anyone can rebuild their lives and find love and friendship. What a lovely theme!

Starting this book was like falling into a role-playing/fantasy game I used to play. The characters were on a small raid and even the cave and critter they were after felt familiar. From there, the main character focused on finding her best life. Without giving too much away, she assembles a group of friends, finds out her dreams can come true, and proves that she's not just all fangs and hard edges.
