I liked this a lot, especially Marra's character. I especially like that she's over thirty when all the action takes place. Also the godmothers are super cool. And so are the chickens.

A fairy tale, with a lot of the traditional tropes (three princeses, fairy godmothers, impossible tasks) with more modern sensibilities regarding politics, domestic violence, and women's options. Marra is the youngest princess; she is on a quest to save her sister from an abusive prince. She is not terribly clever or ambitious, and realizes this, and would rather spend her time in the convent learning about weaving and embroidery (although she also learns how to shovel manure, and some other pra

Normal human gets sent on wild quest
A dark fairytale with a too-real villain. A self-doubt-filled, not-quite-nun, who gardens and embroiders and thinks herself a not-great princess, teams up with a grumpy lady with a demon chicken familiar, a not-so-evil godmother, and an exiled knight. A quest ensued. A very fun read.

This is a great story. A quest, a demon chicken, a bone dog, embroidery, an evil prince, a goblin market and sisters.
It took me a minute to get drawn into the world but then I could not stop reading.
