Why. Why why why. God this was so stupid. Nothing happens until about 65%. And even then, it stayed so small. The writing style and mysteriousness promised Big Ideas or at the very least, A Small Story With A Big Heart. It delivered neither, and thus the intentionally dull (I hope it was intentional) style found throughout was completely wasted.

I loved Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell so much that I was bracing myself for disappointment going into Piranesi. But Piranesi pulls off an impressive feat; it keeps key strengths of the former, without feeling in any way like a retread.
