(3.5) It's all about the plot (and The Worst Witch was there first)
Harry Potter is great. I've loved the movies, plan to see them all and plan to read all the books (yes, I'm getting a later start than some). Much fun to read, though the writing is really nothing special. In fact, it's a good example for kids to see how much weaker "telling instead of showing" can be. She does throw in a lot of dialogue and action, but in between it's a lot of just plain old explaining. Maybe that's appropriate ...more

Woe is Harry. Life sucks. Never knew his parents. His adopted family mistreats him to cartoonish levels. But hey, he has the knack for magic! He'll go somewhere else where he's not just special, but a legend with a destiny. He'll see crazy stuff, stumble into friendships he won't have to earn, fight some badguys, and if he survives, he might just learn something. A reler pela 6ª vez, salvo erro. :P
Lido pela primeira vez no Natal de 1999.
Tradução horrível, de fazer ranger os dentes e revirar os olhinhos. Felizmente salva-se a história dessa deusa da escrita que é a J.K. :D

Just finished the new illustrated edition. It was fun to re-read HP with the added illustrations! Beautiful!

To tell the truth, I lost count of the times I’ve read this book. Probably this was the fourth or fifth time, but it was the first in English which probably made me enjoy it as much as when I read it for the first time in Portuguese. I felt as learning about a new world, though I already knew the story backwards.
The childish tone is plainly there, but I think that’s what makes J.K. Rowling such a wonderful writer. She presents us a very young character and makes him grow throughout the book, a ...more

I found this series enjoyable but I still don't understand what all the fuss is about. Perhaps it is because I've been reading fantasy novels for years and so this is not my introduction to the genre as it has been for so many, but I didn't find anything new or exciting in these books that can't be found in hundreds of other fantasy novels. They are worth the time to read and I do love a series because sometimes it's very hard to let go of good characters after just one book. I think these are b
