This was a favorite book of mine from my YA years. I was hesitant to return to it as an adult after a number of old favorites did not hold up to an adult reading (Narnia). But I slid back into this book easily, still loving Ender's adult-like, internal conflicts, and seeing him overcome the cruelties that only children can inflict upon each other. "Ender's Game" wasn't the first sci-fi book I've read and surely won't be the last.
At first, I thought that its narrative was pretty slow and rather unspectacular, at least from todays perspective.
It might be that the incredible reputation that precedes the sci-fi classic boosted my expectations in a way that I finally ended up finding the book rather mediocre. I don't mean that in a negative manner though, but rather in a neutral way.
