This is a novel that blows past conventional ideas like "disbelief." Apparently humanity, a species whose only real claim to fame is war, now stinks at war, and can only be saved by a child genius who is one part prophecy, one part bad science, and one part wish-fulfillment. Thanks to this plan, we are treated to a gaggle of super-intelligent children who seldom appear particularly clever (in fact many behave with adult maturity rather than abnormal intellect) and achieve greatness not through a ...more

Wow, what an incredible book. Characters drawn with great believability and depth, truly intense situations, and astute psychological dynamics woven into a gripping narrative -- Card combines all of this to fashion a deeply moving and disturbing meditation on war, guilt, responsibility and genius.

This is really 4.5 stars. It was excellent. But I don't feel like it is really over, but that is okay since this is only one of 6 total novels. I'm looking forward to number 2. Kind of disappointed because I was able to figure out what was going on before the revealed it at the end. That is why it gets dinged .5 a star. ...more

I read this book for my young adult class, but I had always kind of wanted to read it anyway. I liked the world and the character Card created. It was interesting to see Ender grow and change, despite what the adults do to him. It was slow in parts, but overall rather good. I enjoyed it.

Cool premise

Cool premise: gifted children training for space-battle thru game. Adults take advantage of kids' innocence/playfulness/competitiveness/creativity. Card creates an unrealistically perfect protagonist, tries to reveal his psych, but only tells Ender's thts
