A fast paced read that can be annoying at times.

What main character would put up with so much and not question what was happening? Shadow doesn't stop to ask why or what or how, maybe it's his nature but it would have been a better experience had he done so.

You may get irritated that the book is moving while not answering and I won't lie and say it is worth the wait, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow isn't that imaginative or spectacular. Not a bad story, not a great one either.

Good but decidedly random. Sub-stories don't all tie together which is fine but off-putting.

This is one book that I should have read instead of listen to. Since I only listen to audiobooks when I've chores that take some time to do, there were weeks (even months) in which I didn't pick up the audio and I feel like I've lost something of the story. However this was the first story by Gaiman that I really enjoyed and surprised me. I did like the characters and the idea of gods living among us.

I will definitely re-read it.

Also, loved the interview. :)

I think I only got as far in this book as I did because I was bored. There was far too much swearing and sex references in this book for me. Even after I had read some of this book, I had to read reviews and book blurbs to find out what it was about. Granted, I wasn't that far into the book, but if I haven't quite figured out what a book it about by page 100, it probably wasn't written well enough, at least for my taste. I really wanted this book to be good since so many people rave about it, bu ...more

I tried this book when it first came out. It was like when an old friend tries something new; I thought, "But, Neil, you write comic books. Plus you already addressed this in Brief Lives. Why would you write this book?"

Plus it was thick.

Over 10 years (and a cheap e-version) later, I finally understand why.

Meet you at the House on the Rock.
