This was my second reading of this book. I wish I could give it 5 stars because it is very well written and very complex. I truly think this is a great book. But, after reading it twice, I'm still uncertain as to whether I like it. It's very, very dark and the main character is very depressing. This was just not my thing at all. It started off okay, but as it went on I cared less and less about everything. The characters didn't draw me in at all, the plot was disjointed and I couldn't bring myself to care about any of it. This is probably more like 3.5 stars. Make no mistake, Neil Gaiman is a master. However, this novel pushed the bounds of what I can comfortably consume. Reading this reminded me that I struggle with Fantasy and prefer traditional Sci-Fi. With all that being said, if you appreciate beautiful writing and supreme talent, then this book is worth your while.

This is by far my least favorite Gaiman. I absolutely loved Neverwhere and Stardust was just alright. This one failed to grip me and I ended up not caring about any of the characters.
