Better than I remembered. It's pretty amazing to re-read this book after 20 years and realize how much of the world Jordan had already assembled, just in the first book.

One new thing that annoyed me on this read-through is a trope I've recently uncovered in fantasy novels: cart drivers and inn keepers giving massive exposition dumps. I had held off reading this for years, decades even for two main reasons. One honestly is that the cover art is not great. While that shouldn't be a deciding factor it sometimes is. Secondly is all the times I've heard that this is a retread of Lord of the Rings. Now I have to somewhat agree with this. The overall structure is very similar. This was a re-read for me. I have heard about the Wheel of Time TV series to be released soon. I enjoy seeing how different the video interpretation of a book is than what I imagine as I read. So much time had passed since I read this (when I was a teenager still?) that I felt I had completely forgotten all of it. But I was surprised to find how much I recalled upon reading it again.
