This is a book where I liked the ideas that were being presented but kind of felt irratated with much of the presentation.

Ok, I admit that it took me forever to finally get around to reading this book. Many years ago when I first heard of it I didn't give it much attention, thinking it to be nothing more than a cheap knockoff of Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers, one of my all-time favorite books. Now, years later, when I find myself once more in a mental place where I am enjoying military themed science fiction I felt that perhaps I should give it a shot. Slow to start, but once the basics are covered in the first couple dozens of pages, the pace picks up and I felt it was hard to stop reading. Could have done without the epilogue, but most people like a really happy ending. This is one of those books that learning about he authors life beforehand, actually helps bring life to the story and really makes the events in the book seem more alive.
