I don't quite know how to rate this book. One the one hand, I think the writing was mostly beautiful and I can't say I was ever bored. But there wasn't one single likable character. I had no one to root for through the whole nearly 900 pages. I hated everyone.
And it really didn't need to be 900 pages. There were some things that were just so repetitive and slow moving, and we didn't need to hear about it for the 50th time.

been years since I read this book, though the most beautiful girl in my neighborhood in high school, upon whom I had a major crush, loved this book and always wanted a hardcover copy, so whenever I am in a good used bookstore I still, almost 20 years later, find myself scanning for a copy. I remember loving this book myself, probably should reread my trade paperback copy.
