Not at all what I expected, but this turned out much better than I anticipated after book 1. The first book was so sloooow, I can't figure out if it was necessary in order to paint the scene and establish the characters - or if that could have been done more expediently?
I really enjoyed all of the theological debates that often drove the plot of this book. Fascinating and compelling. I wish we could have learned more about the ways of Avalon -- I know the author did a lot of research about that ...more

When I first read this book about ten years ago, I found myself enmeshed in the epic storyline, which chronicles the female story of the Knights of the Round Table. This book is rife with ancient magic and worship of the mother goddess and all that. I remember really enjoying this book. After rereading it, I actually found it a bit difficult to get through.
