I got a copy of this book for Christmas and was wary of reading it due to the length. I've probably mentioned before that I am always wary of reading longer books because I have a compulsion to finish them whether I like them or not (sometimes the process can be painful).

It didn't take long to be drawn into A Game Of Thones, and I was surprised by how quickly it gripped me. I haven't seen the television series, so I consider that a bonus. But frankly A Game of Thones is now one of my favourite b

My quick review of A Game of Thrones in book form is that you should read it now. It is a great fantasy book. The first book of the Song of Ice and Fire septology is good enough that I’ll be reading everything George R. R. Martin writes for a very long time. While learning the names of every character was difficult at the start. It wasn’t a problem for me as every character was so well defined that as soon as they did anything it was easy to work out who everyone was. I enjoyed reading this book ...more

Truly a masterpiece. Yet extremely long. So long that I have not been able to muster the courage the start the next one in the series. I am not sure my marriage can withstand it.

I've almost finished reading the 4th book in the series. Good plot twists, nice characterizations. A bit too much 'blood and guts' for my taste; but not beyond tolerance. My main concern lies with the author's use of too many characters. Many have first and last names, in addition to nicknames; and they are referred to by each name in different situations.
