I got a copy of this book for Christmas and was wary of reading it due to the length. I've probably mentioned before that I am always wary of reading longer books because I have a compulsion to finish them whether I like them or not (sometimes the process can be painful).

If anyone has the mistaken notion that fantasies are simplistic, only for children, or they have to the only in the quest format should read this series. With an epic cast of hundreds of fleshed out characters, and an intricately planned and delicately designed storyline (but never incomprehensibly messy), this is storytelling at its best. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. And the HBO mini-series is being very faithful to the book. It is amazing the amount of details contained in the three story lines in the series. All three wonderfully interwoven and yet, continue on their own. I can't believe it took me this long to 'discover' such a great series.

Well, it seems everyone already knew what the story is, so I just go on sharing how I feel about this book.
A little bit too black and white for me. The good ones are too good, the evil ones are too evil. Not saying that there are no grey characters, though. As usual, I tend to root for the underdog character.
I like that this book does not hesitate in hammering this idea into the reader's head: you can be honest, idealistic, and honorable; but without cunning, you will be dead. ...more
