This book took me a while to get into - at first it seemed to trod all-too-familiar ground (average boy turns out to be Special, learns magic, saves the world, scene) and I wasn't sure why it received such rave reviews.

Held my interest throughout. I enjoyed the method of storytelling which through reminiscences.
Interesting book. Good story telling. Interesting his take on magic in this, tying it into the world in a more believable, limited, way. You also see complexity in the characters, how a guy can turn into the thing he's pretending to be if he stays at it long enough.
