I give this book a 4 star rating because of the fun story of the University: the admission tests, the classes, the skills to be learned, the hanging out with good friends, the colourful teachers, the hard times Kvothe had as a student while having no money at all, and the LIBRARY (or let's say the lack of long description of it! I assume in Book 2 Kvothe will be kicked out soon since the very beginning of the book, so maybe the small glimpse in Book 1 is the only glimpse we have of the legendary

I'm going to begin by stating that I am not a fan of fantasy fiction. However, for the most part I thought this novel was entertaining, if you are under 20. A YA reader will probably enjoy it and its sequels. As a seasoned reader, I found that this could have been heavily edited and the gist of the story would have been retained. I know the publishing world is shrinking, but where the heck are the good editors?

Well told tales - books in this series aren't really novels, I think. They're more like, collections of short stories, set in a MARVELOUS world - all with the same charming main character. HIGHLY recommend.
