I have not read the classic The Prisoner of Zenda, so I’m jumping into this book not knowing what to expect. Having read most of K.J. Charles’ books gives me confident to - at least - enjoy this, as I love some of the author’s titles. And The Henchmen of Zenda is another win for me.
The tale was narrated by Jasper Detchard, one of The Six or the Henchmen of Zenda, recruited by the King of Ruritania’s half-brother who eyed the throne for himself. Suffused with self-importance nobles, covert agend ...more

"[Rudolph Rassendyll's account] gives us a beautiful, passionate princess, a man who renounces love and crown for the sake of a greater and purer cause, and a villain -- such a villain. The Henchmen of Zenda was written by KJ Charles. This m/m adventure story is an homage to The Prisoner of Zenda, a minor classic from the Victorian era. Now, I have never read The Prisoner of Zenda before, but Charles is one of my favorite authors, so this was a must-buy for me.

Thrilling ride
I loved the Prisoner of Zenda both as a book and a film (James Mason as Rupert!). KJ Charles has given us another side to the story, but has stayed true to the atmosphere, the joyous derring-do, the galloping pace, and the high-stakes intrigues. Lots of snarky humour but the risks are real and deadly and the romance between Detchard and Rupert is hot.
