This is the One Book One Denver selection this year, so I decided to pick it up and give it a whirl. So far, I am not at all disappointed. Set in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962 during the beginning of the civil rights movement, it alternates between dialect writing of two black maids and non dialect writing of a white college graduate woman who has decided to make her stab at the literary world by publishing stories about what the black help sees, thinks, and feels.
