I picked this book as part of my preparations to visit Turkey next October and quiet aware that I would spend at least one night in the now abandoned town where the action of the novel takes place.
I consider it a great book, interesting, properly written, with the right pace. I learned a good lot about the History of Turkey (and the Ottoman Empire) with this reading. Well done, Louis de Bernières.
