Always wondered what the hype was with the book. So, I read it. And I still don't understand the hype. Maybe its because I wasn't a rebel? maybe becuase I'm a mixed raced young woman living in 21st century Australia and not a white adolosent boy in early 1950's America? perhaps it's because I though getting a hotel room alone in New York at seventeen isn't all that rebel? what ever it was, I just don't understand this book.

Not as great as people make it out to be, but still really good. I could completley relate to it when I read it. I thought Holden was great.

First of all, I've read more and seen more classic movies so this time around I understand a lot more of the references to popular culture in the late 1940s as well as the popular literature references.
